VSO International responds to the Pakistan floods that have displaced more than 4.5 million people and claimed an estimated 1,600 lives.

CUSO-VSO is seeking skilled and dedicated persons to join our Board of Directors. We are seeking a number of dynamic candidates to join us in this journey. Board members will be elected in September 2010 to serve a three-year term.

CUSO-VSO believes education beats poverty. That's why the organization has joined with some of soccer's greatest players and millions of people from across the globe. We have one goal: to help the children around the world who are missing out on a primary education get one.

CUSO-VSO shares the concern of many who are involved in international development at the apparent decision by CIDA to terminate funding support to the CCIC (Canadian Council for International Cooperation). 

Derek Evans, the Executive Director of CUSO-VSO, has been awarded an honourary Doctor of Divinity from the Vancouver School of Theology.

Derek Evans, E.D. of CUSO-VSO, has won the Hicks Morley Vision Award. This award recognizes any executive at or above the Director level who is a champion of Human Resources at the corporate/organizational level.

Derek Evans, CUSO-VSO´s Executive Director, chaired a summit that is being recognized as an historic moment. Leaders from all of the world’s major religious traditions have agreed to help eradicate AIDS.

CUSO-VSO and Scotiabank have announced a partnership that will provide an opportunity for the bank's staff to apply international expertise to projects throughout the developing world. The Scotiabank Employee Fellowship Program will allow employees to share international experience and business skills where the need is greatest.

Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) and CUSO-VSO are coordinating joint programs for Canadian volunteers working with Cameroonian partners. CESO will focus on improving economic development, and CUSO-VSO on strengthening civil society organizations.

CUSO-VSO has a partnership with the Province of British Columbia that encourages employees to take a "sabatical" and then return to serve with the Province of B.C. Over thirty BC civil servants have served with CUSO or VSO prior to their employment or during their employment (after which they had to reapply for a job.) Under the current agreement, a position is guaranteed for them on return from an overseas posting.

Poverty and Promise: One Volunteer's Experience of Kenya (Just One Voice Press) by Cindi Brown has won the Indie Gold Medal Award from the 2009 Indie Next Generation Book Awards program and the IPPY Gold Medal Award from the 2009 Independent Publisher Book Awards program, both in the Multicultural category.

Tracy Glynn, who was a volunteer in Indonesia working with a mining advocacy group, is one of 10 people selected by the Gordon Global Fellowship Programme.

The Canadian National Council of Visible Minorities for the Federal Public Service plans to present a posthumous award to Dr. Lewis Perinbam. Mr. Lewis Perinbam died on December 12th, 2007, after a long illness. Mr. Perinbam was one of Canada’s pioneers in international development and volunteering, and closely associated with CUSO.

Dr. James Morrison, a history professor at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and former overseas volunteer with CUSO, has been named a Member of the Order of Canada by Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. Dr. Morrison was a volunteer in West Africa in the late 1960s.
