Volunteers from Princeton hope to contribute to community life in Ghana

05/03/2010

Students from Princeton University are six months in to a volunteering programme in Ghana, where they are helping out a number of communities.

The group of five have been getting involved in a range of projects and schemes, such as environmental conservation, teaching and health care, according to the institute's official website.

They have each been allocated a host family and Aria Miles, one of the volunteers, described how relatively easy the transition was.

Ms Miles said that she and the other team members were able to integrate themselves "whether it was washing dishes or cooking, sweeping the house or keeping an eye on a baby, helping younger siblings with their homework or helping customers at the family store".

Pupils at the Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian church in Plymouth announced last month that they were seeking sponsorship and holding fundraising events so that they could partake in a similar expedition to the country.
